Our Story
Over the past 2 years, our family has gone through some pretty significant changes. We (Scott and I) took a major leap of faith to help our struggling child. No different than it would have been had she had a physical illness, we stopped at nothing to help her. That included transforming ourselves in many ways, as we
re-learned how to be the most supportive parents we could be.
During this time, Scott began to train for what will be his third Ironman.
An Ironman full triathlon consists of a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike, and then a (26.2 mile) marathon. Race day is monumental,
but the day-to-day training is as much, if not sometimes more of a feat.
Scott's reasons for "putting himself through this" transcend his desire for a
physical challenge. A strong body is not the only thing necessary to push through hours of running in the cold, or to swim in the bay at 5:30am, or to summon every last bit of energy to complete 140.6 miles on race day.
It is what, and who he is thinking of that gives him the will and
the mental strength to persevere.
In the past, he has been inspired by true stories of heroes like Dick & Rick Hoyt,
and those who, with tremendous grace, have battled illnesses as did his
own dear father - a man Scott referred to as the real Ironman.
This time around, on the heels of what we would consider to be the most daunting and courageous and powerful journey of our lives, Scott will be dedicating his race to our beautiful, healthy daughter, for the incredibly tough work she has done and continues to do to ensure her bright future.
Throughout our journey, we have remained eternally grateful for our ability to afford the resources we needed. And, at the same time, we have been haunted by the knowledge that so many families like us - families who would do anything to help their child - would never have that opportunity, and would suffer endlessly, because they could not manage the financial burden.
So, for this upcoming Ironman, we not only greatly appreciate your support of Scott and our family, but we ask for your support of SavingTeens, in an effort to help the many deserving families who are seeking help for their struggling children.
